Officers of the club are stepping down.

A new slate of officers was elected.  Club officers must be members of AAW.  There was one dissenting vote for President.  The votes for Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary were unanimous.

President - Tim Starliper
Vice-President - Toby Bouder
Treasurer - Robert "Bob" Troy
Secretary - Randall "Randy" Smith

A gratuity was presented to Troy Nethaway for his many years of service as president.  A HUGE round of applause for Troy Nethaway, Bill Tatkovski, and Karl Hildabrand!

A discussion of the IRDs that the club has been sponsoring.  Attendance has been waning over time.   We need to be more focused on the demos we attend as a club.  We can collaborate with other clubs to share costs.  Individual members can always attend demos they are interested in.  AAW has listings of IRDs  you must be a member of AAW and have a login to view this page.

Show and Tell:    I messed up the Show and Tell by forgetting the images sent to my email address.  These will be on next month's Show and Tell.

Steve Jones is a wood turner from UK very expert at skew usage.  This is a demonstration of what the skew is capable of!

A long and lengthy discussion on modifying the Club By-laws was presented.  I have an audio recording and a video recording was also created.  The take-away is AAW will not allow us to make significant changes to the by-laws.  They have to approve any changes to the bylaws and although they say these are OUR By-laws, they have to approve and will not allow substantial changes.

Items Discussed:  Most of these are clarifications or re-statements of existing items in the by-laws.  We should make any changes as simple as possible.

  • Do we need to have an Operations Manual separate from the by-laws?  The Operations Manual would have things that change.  Like dues amounts, meeting location, meeting notifications,  voting via Zoom, etc.
  • Do club officers have to be AAW members.  Yes, AAW will not allow that to be in the club by-laws.
  • Clarification of the dues.
  • How to replace or remove an officer of the club in case of inability (sickness or death) or refusal to perform duties of office.   What method is used to replace an officer?  Can a temporary appointment be made?  How?
    • How can an officer be replaced?
      • Appointment of an interim officer by remaining officers?
      • Publication of a proposal to remove an officer. on a specified date and time.
      • Election of new officer by members?
  •  Do club officers need to be members of AAW?

  • What happens if the club dissolves.
    • If the offices of President and Vice-President are vacant for 2 consecutive meetings the club will be declared to be non-functioning.  In this event, the assets of the club will be distributed in a manner set forth in an Operations Manual.
      • If these offices are vacant, the club members will meet to vote for new club officers as needed.
      • Members will be notified of a nomination and election prior to any nomination or election.
  • Club by-laws must be submitted to and approved by AAW.
  • Treasurer does not have any responsibility to ensure officers are AAW members.

This is a work in progress and a final set of by-laws will be published for approval to the club members.  Only paid up club members are allowed to vote.

The insurance provided by the AAW to our club was discussed.  The take-away I got is that the insurance is virtually useless and only covers remote events sanctioned by our club.  It does not cover club meetings and demonstrations.  Thanks to Troy for asking the tough questions of AAW.  Susquehanna Woodturners needs to get a copy of the Insurance Contract.

Do we want to create any requirements related to Covid?  We are abiding by policies of Woodcraft as to

John Finley was killed while chainsawing when a tree fell on him.  There are few additional details.  Our condolences to his family.
